SafeSpace is a supported accommodation project based in Nelson for 16 – 25 year olds who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, including young people who are leaving care.
Their accommodation and support services are purpose built providing fully furnished accommodation and support for 19 young people. The facilities include 15 self-contained flats (consisting of a lounge, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen and storage area), 4 emergency bedrooms, communal lounges, training kitchens, communal laundry, IT suite, activity room and counselling room.
SafeSpace is funded through rent and service charge payments, and through contract with Supporting People, however this funding doesn’t cover everything they would like to provide. Often young people come to SafeSpace with nothing or very few possessions.
Mayoresses Charity Fundraising Committee have chosen SafeSpace as a benefactor of their fund raising.
The committee will be working hard to provide:
- 40 Welcome packs containing 3T’s (towels, toiletries and tins)
- 20 Move on packs (crockery, small kitchen equipment)
- Food to support cooking activities designed to develop the young persons independence skills
